Surgery
Bovine surgery is performed routinely at LVH. The more common surgeries include stomach displacements in dairy cows and c-sections.
Less common include eye removal, calf hernia repair, and wound repair to
name a few.
Our intensive calf surgeries such as hernia repair are often done under general anesthesia. This is the gold standard because the animal feels no pain, is supplied with a constant supply of oxygen and there is no patient movement during the procedure.
Adult surgeries, such as the LDA shown, are done standing in the head gate. We clip and scrub the surgical field with very wide margins and use local anesthetic.
